A communications card is used for two-way communications using a modem. 3. BAUD RATE. This is the rate at which the Apple sends and receives data. A ratefour arrow keys. Use whatever setting is proper with the type of modem you are using. 4. LINE FEED. If your printer automatically sends a line feed after a carriage return, disable the line feed. If the line feed needs to come from the computer, enable it to do so. 5. LINE WIDTH. Set the length of the line to be printed. Since most Apple // programs use a 40 column line, 40 is a good choice. A width of 80 is "standard". 6. CARRIAGE RETURN DELAY. Set this to ON if yourated keys on the Apple /// keyboard. The affected keys are: @ ^ & ( * ) : = " , In addition, a few keys on the Apple /// keyboard produce characters that the Apple /// can't produce. When they're pressed while you're using the emulator, you'll see difonly get color using the standard video output. Peripherals You can'ure for emulation mode. If you have installed a ProFile and your system "hangs" (does nothing) or you see random characters when you start up your Apple // disk, you may need to follow a special startup procedure: Before starting up your Emulation Disk, fcan still run DOS 3.2 disks in the Apple // emulation mode by using the DOS 3.3 Basics disk after you boot the Apple // Emulation disk. PROFILE Sometimes, Apple ///'s that have a peripheral card for a ProFile require a slightly different startup proced). Do not write- protect your copy and be sure to store this original disk properly. Apple // emulation uses Apple // DOS 3.3. If you have DOS 3.2 disks, update them using the Apple //'s FID and MUFFIN programs. If your disks are copy- protected, you rograms that use the Pascal Run-Time System. The Emulation program on side two of this disk is write-protected. In order to fully use its capabilities, you should make a copy of it using the Copy Volume command on the Utilities disk (/// SIG disk 1004ion disk. (Under most circumstances, this will not be a problem, since 99% of the disks you will use in Emulation mode will the DOS 3.3 disks using Applesoft.) You can't run Apple // Pascal programs that require the Language card. You can, however, run pApple /// doesn't work exactly like an Apple //, there are a few limitations to keep in mind: SOFTWARE You can only have one version of Basic (Applesoft or Integer Basic) in memory at one time. To change Basics, you'll have to reboot the Apple // EmulatRemember that the next time you boot the emulation disk, everything will be returned to the default (normal) values. If you want to save the configuration you've set up, hold down the CLOSED APPLE key and press . EMULATION LIMITATIONS Since the printer needs extra time to return the print head to the left margin before it starts to print. They h "transparent" mode, whereby it will apparently ignore all line length statements; at any rate, I haven't had to use a line length statement yet. I don't do any graphics work, so I'm not sure if the "transparent" mode matters or not (I did print one graph80N"). Serial cards seem to just not care one way or the other. I had a CCS 7710 card with a DECwriter IV serial printer for years, and I recently switched to Epson FX-286 and Grappler+ when I bought the //e. A dip switch on the Grappler sets the card toerstand the difference ..... However I have had a lot of success with the ImagewriterII with most of the ][ programs I use even tho I have obstensively a "parallel" emulation disk. I still don't und of options. I'm afraid we will need to know some of that info before we can go much further with advice. Hope this helps some. I'm talking about doing it right out of Applesoft Basic in emulation. Then the question is: do your business programs have a printer setup menu to tell them what to send to.
