You can make a driver active or inactive by using the "down" arrow to highlight the "Driver Status" option, press RETURN and then hitting the "I" key for inactive or "A" key for active. Preort, you may also need a .PRINTER or .RS232 driver that specifically says it works with the internal port (When you use "E" it will be obvious to you). You can also make a driver "active or inactive" if you like. If a driver is inactive, it will not be ay that means telling SOS what slot a particular card is in (Example: if you have an Apple /// Serial or Parallel card, and it is in slot one, you will have to make sure the driver is configured for that slot...) Since your Apple /// has an integral RS232 pd into your current driver configuration. ADDITIONAL NOTE: You will also have to make sure that each driver is edited such that SOS can communicate with it properly. That may mean you will have to use the "E" option to edit a particular driver. Usuallluded on that particular disk displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Simply chose the one you would like to access by using the up or down arrows to locate and right arrow to specify, then, hit RETURN. That specific file will then be reathe files SYSTEM.MISCINFO, SYSTEM.PASCAL AND SYSTEM.STARTUP to the diskette you named SYS.UTIL2. In order to use these, put the first disk in the built-in drive and enter CONTROL/RESET to boot the system. After that portion of the operating system loads, it will ask you to "Put System Disk in Built-in Drive." After you insert your second diskette in the driver enter RETURN and the Utilities Main Menu will come to the Screen. You'll now have plenty of room (up to 51k) for even the largest of drivernfigured for 128k, if the part number is 341-0063 then you are set up for 256k. The "system.startup" from the Systems Utilities disk should work when you type "f" if it is stored as "system.filer" on the root directory. Or you might try it as su.code and believe the problems I'm having! Did every ///r have to go through all this? If so, I'm surprised there aren't more ///s in the dumpsters! This is ridiculous. What did you say the part number on the PROM at C13 was? If it is 341-0062 you are hardware cohow to make drivers dynamic (no Catalyst here). The Pascal system now boots. The problem is now with the Editor (and maybe more). I don't have a workfile defined, when I go into the editor and just hit return, the Editor gives me Stack Overflow. I can't the above still gives the error, try rearranging your order on theSOS.DRIVER file to minimize any memory "fragmentization". Made Apple ][ disk stuff non resident and 0K Graphics space. Made all drivers inactive except CONSOLE and PROFILE. Don't know ecking your SOS.DRIVER & making sure all drivers not needed are dynamically loaded, ie .GRAFIX, .AUDIO, .FMTD1, etc., .D3 (uSci) etc. Next verify the O(ptions at the Pascal Command line have 0K grafics space allocated, and that Apple ][ is NOT resident. Ifn a SOS root directory, and I believe about 1060 in a subdirectory. If you try to write more than 51 files you can trash the directory. ### Pascal You're STACK O'FLOW error is probably due to the following: Try chd and the directory was garbaged. After doing this twice, I suspected that SU was the problem (and not flaky hardware) and didn't use SU to delete. I deleted with the Pascal Filer, and everything is OK. Another note. You are allowed MAXIMUM of 51 files oes seems to have been one of my problems. I was transferring files from my Pascal floppies to the Profile, transferred too many, and deleted them from the Profile. Resumed my copying when Lo and Behold, SU couldn't find the /PROFILE volume anymore! I liste Then I remember a complaint by my local dealer about SYSTEM UTILS 1.1 having trouble with formatting some hard disks. Sure enough, my old backup SYSTEM UTILS was 1.1. Switching to 1.2, it formatted the first time and got me up again. System UtilitiEM UTILITIES and BACKUP ///, I thought, no problem. However, I could NOT get SYSTEM UTILITIES to reformat the hard disk! A call to Charlie suggested that I reset the drive by turning it off and on. It worked once, but I still could not access the drive. my employees screwed up recently and destroyed the disk directory on the 4 meg volume of my CMC 20 meg disk. Set it as the BACKUP volume, not .D4!! Anyway, since I am a stickler about backing up, and I had my 'emergency access' bootable floppies of SYSTaudio, etc.) Note you may have to rename the driver (use the Edit option in SCP) to fit the expectations of your program (.PRINTER, .PROFILE, .RS232 for example). ell exactly what you will need, but these should help to get you started. You will always need a .CONSOLE driver in every SOS.DRIVER file, by the way. The rest are optional depending on what you need to do (print, communicate by modem, operate graphics, files. ============================================================ =================== NOTE: On the SOS.Driver file on this disk, you will find installed a number of current drivers you may use for your own applications. Obviously it is impossible to just execute it. Or you could boot Pascal and then try to execute ".d1/system.startup." (note the last dot) to see if it will work with the way you are set up. ### Screen Codes Page 244 of McGraw Hill's 'Guide to the Apple ///' has a table of Screen Control Codes. I've successfully used some of these (in BASIC), eg. chr$(30), clear line and chr$(29), clear to end of screen. Most of the others codes are a mystery to me. Can anyone tell me how they can be uelp... The standard conf. for the + .CONSOLE driver is 18K which may be too much for your config. Depending on the modules you have, try changing Byte 01 of line Ox from 48 to whatever is required by the modules you have. See Daryls instructions 'Advanatalyst? I'm not running BPI, but I have a full driver file (8k left), and I tried for 3 hours tonight to install DM+ but continued to get Stack Overflows everytime. How small did you have to get your driver file to get Catalyst to boot? Thanks for any hason is, the install program ALSO changes the SOS boot code. After you have installed it with the INSTALLER you can change the SOS.DRIVER file as much as you like with the SCP. Take Care.... What did you finally do to get PK DM+ to boot successfully w/ Cfter step 3, then this routine is not necessary. 5. You can also install their driver in the normal way with SCP, if you wish. You can install the Desktop Driver with the SCP but you MUST install it at least once with the install program. The reo read back into SCP, an option on the installation menu is also provided to "deinstall" their driver. Then you could use the SCP to change other drivers and then reinstall .DESKTOPMANAGER via the procedure 3. If the driver file is not too big a .DESKTOPMANAGER (as an option) to your SOS.DRIVER file. It will add it to a "full" driver file, as the SCP sees it. This is nice, in that you can get closer to a full 64K of drivers, if you want. 4. Since the SOS.DRIVER file in 3 may be too big tManager yet, but reading the documentation first (unusual for me) I can note the following for you: 1. It does not replace the .CONSOLE driver. 2. It does setup a subdirectory on hard disk and copies files to it. 3. It will add theeding string is backspaced out. The other cursor arrows show no effect at all. In all cases the cursor does not move out of the cell, and that is what I wanted it to do. What am I doing wrong? --- I have not had a chance to install On Three's Desktop t it doesn't seem to work. The Power Keys map shows the graphic representation of the the ASCII character, NK for Right Arrow, BS for Left Arrow, LF for Down Arrow, and VT for Up Arrow. If the last character is a left arrow, the last character in the prechave been trying to make Power Keys macros end with cursor arrows. This would be especially helpful in VisiCalc. I have tried entering them in the macros while holding down the open-apple key -- that is how I interpret the instructions in the manual -- buow does their autoinstall program work? Does it prompt you to put in disks in a certain order? Does it delete the console driver and replace it with another? I'm just wondering because I wrote one for Power Keys DM+ but was wondering how they did it. I nd in text form to load into my programs that use the screen (most of em) to save having to re-code, and also to standardize my programs. ### Desktop Manager/PowerKeys DM+ To anyone who has OnThree's Desktop Manager: Hhem. It also covers how to use them. You can download a file from ///'s Company that defines the /// screen codes to be used in a Bus. Basic program. The file is in the apple.iii.help/Programming/Bus.Basic/Sample.progs.1 directory. I keep this file aroused in a program and what tricks they do. There are literally thousands of different reasons of using screen control codes. Read pages 34-46 in your Standard Device Driver manual. It covers all these codes and does a reasonably good job explain all of tced Features section' under Memory Management. Also set byte 06 of the .CATALYST to '00' instead of '06' to disable directory buffering. The other thing I suggest is configure your Boot Disk for only .CONSOLE, .QUARKCOM (With maybe .UNUSED6 inactive?),.CATALYST PRINTER, & .PROFILE. All the rest load dynamically as required, including the uSci A-143. See what happens & let me know... I had to delete PK C&P from my SOS.DRIVER and save it, then exit, re-enter, read the DM+ Console driver, then read the previo## you buy a second 140k drive, get a copy of Copy /// by Digital Microware. You will need to run Visischedule from the .D1 drive. ### COPYING Beforeall seems to work well with beeping of my hard disk and flashing of the lite, but after a short while when you would normally expect the program to up, I end up right back in the CATALYST Menu. Anyone have any comments or suggestions ????? See Bits n getting VisiSchedule up 'n' running on CATALYST? I have tried everything I know. Even trying to make a Library Name File for SYSTEM.LIBRARY & SYSTEM.STAR.LIB as well as adding the SN.001224057 file to the sub directory. Everytime the program loads, o=option character (usually a backslash '\') k=arrow key hit in conjunction with open apple key. Make sure you enter the ` character and not the ' character. ### VisiSchedule Has anyone been sucessful iaryl's new attribute indicators. Whew, that's a big ugly name! To make a long story short, this is all you have to do to define a backspace (or for that matter, any key). Just type the following as a definition... l,o`k where l=letter to be definedia Power Keys. Some programs (like SYS UTILS) won't take the regular backspace. That is that it won't take the backspace you define in your keymaps as open-apple left arrow. The only way these programs will accept a backspace from Power Keys is to use Dso you could possibly substitute the original .PRINTER if your printer can handle the hardware handshake it uses and forego the extra 2K or so that .RS232 includes.... Some people were having trouble with getting some programs to recognize the backspace v more compact also - but then again we can't expect they'll act against their own interest in selling those 512K boards. Sorry I can't think of any solutions to your current Situation... Possibly one - is your .PRINTER a spin-off or renamed .RS232 ? If "desktop") into some 'extended ram' using an "S" card or Apple RAM-EXT card or somesuch... I do understand that OnThree is working on some improvements on the Pascal Baseline system (speed it up using the new 65802 CPU) and we might lean on them to make itns to be seen... Else there's not much more shaving I can foresee since QuikScrn is running in 0.75K and NotePad at 3K includes 2K space to keep your notepad itself in leaving only 1K of code... Maybe we'll diddly SOS 1.9 to load all drivers (or maybe the as I don't have AsciTbl, Showtime, or QuikDial. Maybe this will get it for me....... It is possible that a fairly near-term upgrade to PKY will trim the CONSOLE part by 1.5K-2.0K and possibly shave another 1K off the Power.Keys main module but such remaiusly saved Console-less driver, and re-gen. No cigar to date. Really baffling as I have a 512k system, and cannot even get to the "Loading" message that the DM+ demo disk displays.
