Do NOT use the instructions in the original printed owner's manual f .CJ INFONET BULLETIN BOARD SYSTEM Public Domain Version 9/91 Enhanced by Walt Pawley and Ed Gooding .lj .ff IMPORTANT NOTE! =========================================================================nored. Are you ready to start transmitting? A Press any key to continueA ** TRANSMISSION COMP between themselves and other computer users. INFONET is an easy to use program and has applications for vast numbers of organizations. Examples of effective usage include: - Retail stores who link with customers and sales people - Computer user group communication - School districts communicating with individual schools - Cottage industry marketing and customer communications - Any group of computer users for electronic communications MANUAt be sure to keep a backup copy of the source code files, in case you make mistakes and want to go back to the original copy. .ff SECTION 2 - WHAT IS INFONET? The INFONET software program allows a personal computer to act as anour Catalyst/Selector menus, or X)ecuted from the Pascal Command Line. These are the only changes required to customize the BBS program to your use. If you wish to further customize the BBS, then start studying the source code files and enhance away. Jusas INFONET.TEXT, Exit the E)ditor, invoke the C)ompiler, refer to INFONET.TEXT as your source file and INFONET.CODE as your object file. The resulting INFONET.CODE file would then be placed in your .PROFILE/INFONET.STUFF sub-directory and referenced by y when a potential caller is having trouble connecting with your bbs and needs to talk to you personally to resolve the problem. This number is displayed to the caller when they log in to the BBS. After making these three changes you would save your file shed yourself in the BBS User File with the Sysop Utilities (See Section 4). Be sure to use ALL CAPS when typing this in. Change voice_num to your voice telephone number, if you wish. If you do not want to use this, then delete the line. This is useful in your BBS name, then forget the two quotes in the middle and simply surround your BBS name with a single quote at each end. Change sysop_name between the single quotes to your name. This name should correspond to the Username you used when you establisop via voice} Change bbs_name between the single quotes to whatever you want to name your BBS. Note the double quote between the /// and the s. That is required when- ever you have a single quote in your text. If you do not use a possessive type quoteT into the Pascal E)ditor, and change the following three constants, located at the beginning of the program: .ff const bbs_name='///''s Company'; sysop_name='ED GOODING';{all CAPS for email use} voice_num='(804) 747-8751';{to contact sy enhancements. In order to at least attach a name of your own choosing to your BBS, you WILL have to make a few simple, and minor changes to one of the source code files, and then re- compile before using. You will have to load the file named INFONET.TEXhe latest changes. Walt's enhancement notes follow Ed's. This section is contained in a separate file, titled "PROG.NOTES", and does not have to be printed with the Users Manual, unless you are interested in what has been changed and want to make your owneleased to the Public Domain and made many changes and enhancements to support his BBS, North Umpqua Midnight Oil. Ed got Walt's version and made further enhance- ments to support his ///'s Company BBS. Ed's enhancements are noted first, since they are tto maintain the BBS User File. Section 5 contains Ed Gooding's and Walt Pawley's notes about programming changes they made to the included source code for the BBS and Sysop Utilities programs. Walt got the program from Sun Remarketing when it was rcontained in the package to a hard disk drive. Section 3 describes the functions to be performed by the System Operator and how callers use the BBS. Section 4 contains a description of how the System Operator uses the Sysop Utilities program L CONTENTS This manual contains the following sections: Section 1 contains a brief description of INFONET. Section 2 defines the hardware and software requirements of INFONET and describes how to transfer the program from the diskette electronic bulletin board/message center. The users need only to have a computer with a telephone modem which is ASCII compatible. INFONET can accommodate over 1,000 users depending upon the amount of room on the disk drive. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS To use the INFONET program, you will need the following hardware: 1. An Apple /// computer with 256K of memory; 2. A computer monitor; 3. A hard disk drive (for best performance and capacity); for the BBS will be copied to your hard disk.
